Thanks for the info, Scott. You can also try hobby shops as reported here: http://seethatthere.blogspot.ca/2012/03/affordable-art-part-2.html It may also be called pinstripe tape.

Tessa -

I went to a local art supply store in MN called Dick Blick. I did have a tough time finding the smaller tape though. I went to a couple hardware stores and then wound up calling the craft stores (Michaels, Joannes) and even the paint supply store. I would search for local art supply stores. What caught me up is that they called it Artists Tape, not Painters Tape.

Hope this helps!

I don't recall the exact brand. We just bought it off-the-shelf at an art supply store. It may have been Liquitex brand, which is common here, but I can't recall for sure.

I love your painting, the colors are so rich. What brand of acrylic paint did you use? I just started doing this project and I did all a sample of an acrylic paint that I bought and it doesn’t seem to be as rich as your colors. i like journey

[...] I repined this eye-catching wall art from an incredibly crafty girl named Emily from college. Emily is a sweetheart through and through and her inner-beauty is 874,758,689 times more beautiful than this wall art!
[...] We’ve seen bold projects so far, but this one raises the standards in wall art projects, not only by scale but also through the color palette. A splash of color at that scale needs a lot of courage, imagination and of course a bit of artistic sense, because you can ruin so easy not only a piece of canvas, but the entire project, therefore the room’s ambiance as well. I wouldn’t recommend this in a tight space, because it emanates so much energy that needs to be spread. A large dining area like this one would be perfect, because the environment becomes pretty animated when people gather around, and those two different planes converge: the human component and the décor.{found on thenewdomestic}.
I love your painting, the colors are so rich. What brand of acrylic paint did you use? I just started doing this project and I did all a sample of an acrylic paint that I bought and it doesn't seem to be as rich as your colors.

Hi Jenn,
We got our pre stretched canvas from a local art store (Opus). If you go to an art store in your area, I'm sure they will carry pre stretched canvas in all sorts of sizes.
Good luck!

Hi Rob, the canvas is canvas fabric stretched over a frame. Just go to an art store and ask for a "pre-stretched canvas" and they'll help you sort through the different selections they have in stock. Most pre-stretched canvases are already primed white. If you get raw canvas, you'll have to prime it yourself but chances are your consumer-grade art store stocks pre-primed canvases. We didn't wait for the paint to dry. If you tacked it down well, the paint shouldn't bleed through. You can peel it off while wet and still get a crisp line. You can always touch up any bleeding later if required. Hope that helps.

Great work. I plan on making the same thing, but have a few questions as I'm a bit art illiterate.

1) Is the canvas fabric or a paper of some sort?

2) Did you paint the entire canvas white (or whatever colour you want the lines to show up as) before laying the lines down?

3) When do you peel off the tape; when the paint has totally dried or while its still a bit wet?

Thanks again for the great idea!

Cheers.

Hi Jackie! We found the 1/4 inch tape at our local hardware store... No, we didn't have any problems with the paint bleeding through. Good luck with the painting! Send us a photo!! x
